Larian Studios’ Swen Vincke has stated that the next?Baldur’s Gate 3?update is going to have a bigger focus on features rather than new content in a new interview.

Baldur’s Gate 3?is a CRPG in development from Larian Studios. Set in the?Dungeons & Dragons?universe (and using its ruleset), you and your companions will have to

Many of the changes coming in the next?Baldur’s Gate 3?update are all about adding new features or improving existing ones in the game, many of which are in response to player feedback.

”We are passionate about making [Baldur’s Gate 3] a really, really good game — a really good RPG that we can be very proud of and that you are gonna?love playing and that is going to respect your choices as a player. But to be able to deliver that, we need time.” – Larian Studios Founder Swen Vincke

One example raised by Larian Studios Swen Vincke was the process of “onboarding;” Essentially, Vincke is concerned that new players coming into the game may not be as familiar with?the?D&D?mechanics of?Baldur’s Gate 3, especially players who might have played?Divinity: Original Sin?first. Another example was melee characters. According to Swen Vincke, melee characters are having some difficulties in the early game and that’s something else that Larian Studios plans to address.

Mind, a focus on features for the next?Baldur’s Gate 3?update doesn’t mean that Larian Studios is forgetting about new content. It?is?in development — it’s just not going to be a part of this next update. Swen Vincke hinted at what we could expect to see in a conversation with Gamespot’s Dave Jewitt as part of its Play For All Showcase.

”It’s going to be more expansive than any of the things that we’ve done so far,” Vincke said.

Vincke did have one hint about something interesting?in the next update, though — apparently your decisions at the starter beach can result in a bit of a surprise, although he declined to specify what exactly it was. Sounds like a good excuse to roll up a new character to me!

Unfortunately, the next?Baldur’s Gate 3?update release date was not specified. Swen Vincke did imply that it’s not too far away, though.

The lack of a specific release date aside, there’s some good news that was revealed, too. Larian is aiming to get the game to version 1.0 sometime in 2022 and it will also likely host a third “Panel From Hell” presentation at some point in the future. For now, you can buy?Baldur’s Gate 3?in Early Access for PC?via its official website starting at $59.99 or your regional equivalent.
