Still hoping for a camera fix and reduced load times, along with not having to clear out boss arenas every time after dying.

For every wondrous moment with the giant snake, divine dragon there’s other moments where all fun was sucked dry like the camera issues in the well fight and having to clear out the same enemies every time just to die on the boss.

Make a hard game by all means, but i want to spent my time attempting the boss, not killing grunt for the umpteenth time.

@pip_muzz believe it or not, Sekiro is definitely the best in the series for letting you attempt the boss one more time without killing enemies. Checkpoint placement, etc is way better than say, Bloodborne.

@ztpayne7 It’s the main drawback in the game for me. I am happy to try again and again on tough bosses, but the grunt killing etc… Feels like padding and just a frustration the game could do without. Sekiro is a game I wanted to enjoy a lot more than I actually did.

  I’m a bit confused here.

So the “Game of the Year Edition” is exactly the same game, but I guess with all free patches and updates already loaded? Is there anything in the GOTY edition you don’t get with the standard edition?

Not completed it but its a mint game. Defenately had more fun with this than i did with any souls game (also never completed one) guessing its due to the parry mechanic which i like alot and feudal Japanese setting. Both im a big fan of.

@pip_muzz on that basis alone, I definitely don’t recommend Bloodborne, Dark Souls or Demon Souls because they will be much worse in that regard. But maybe the new boss rush mode in Sekiro will be for you!

@pip_muzz that fight in the well was a much harder experience than it needed be, for that exact reason. Sometimes, as with Blight Town, the bugs become funny parts of the game, like an accidental handicap, but sometimes, yeah. Game’s just bugged.

@pip_muzz Agree about the camera. This is the only From game I never finished… Just couldn’t best the Owl, with that tiny arena and unhelpful camera. I think by that point too I was just exhausted from all the dying and just gave up. Have tried to jump back in from time to time, but just get crushed every time by that jerk and the poor camera.

@pip_muzz @ear_wiG. I honestly can’t remember having a single camera issue in this game or pretty much any From game. I’m wondering what the complaint is. Is it a lock on issue? I’m usually very sensitive to camera issues, so I am curious as to the problems you had.

I played this game to death and got the platinum; no way I’m going back to it, as much as I enjoyed it. To be honest, a boss rush mode doesn’t really do anything for me. There are too many other games, anyway, and PS5 with DeSo is just around the corner.

@doctommaso In open spaces it’s fine. As soon as it’s in any enclosed space it just delocks from the enemy and bounces around/off the walls. As opposed to Nioh where the camera goes through the walls translucently. Sometimes it was easier to play without locking on as the camera would get me killed just as quickly as the enemies. For a difficult game, minor issues that are normally ignorable are unfortunately intensified.

  doctommaso

  16doctommasoSat 24th Oct 2020

@pip_muzz I don’t remember that happening to me, but it may be that after many From games I have learned to unlock and relock the camera and manually move it to compensate. Or it’s a playstyle thing. Sorry you had so much trouble with it.

  1

  Tchunga

  17TchungaSat 24th Oct 2020

@doctommaso Anytime you got into an enclosed space like a room or corridor the camera would wig out and disappear up into wolf’s backside.

lol I just finished platinuming it a couple months ago. I think maybe the difference is I pretty much constantly control the camera when it’s not locked on. I don’t know, it’s weird.

Oh… I do remember it happened with Hirata Owl some, and that was annoying. Maybe it was just less egregious for me in other spots.

I’ve played this game too many times. The combat was fantastic. Even after platinuming it I was still playing it over and over to where I finally mastered besting Isshin. It’s such a good game that could’ve been better on its replayability. Reason why I kept playing was because of the visuals, setting, story, and its combat.

@pip_muzz bn one of the best games I’ve played despite its flaws but yeah that camera angle is a bloody pain. Add photo mode also and you’ve got a ten out of ten. Solid 8/10 as u for ghosts of tsushima, wow I’m nearly 75% in and have loved every minute of it.. But sekiro is a gem. Some people can’t seem to stick with it though.

  1

  Ear_wiG

  26Ear_wiGSat 24th Oct 2020

@doctommaso Yeah it was a close quarters issue for me. It wasn’t an issue for 90% of the game, but a few fights (The Owl in particular) were in such a small arena and if I got pushed to the corner the camera would just get stuck and it’d be instant death. Definitely an issue with the level design there, but also some sort of transparency so I could manage what was happening would have been much appreciated. So maybe it’s not a camera issue, ha!

  @pip_muzz

  Played Dark Souls much?

That’s pretty much the formula. If you die the world gets reset.

Stop whining, we’ve been through this over 3 iterations of souls games, not to mention bloodborne…

  Solaire2019

  28Solaire2019Sun 25th Oct 2020

This game needs new levels as DLC content. Having the platinum trophy, boss rush and replaying bosses is not enough of a draw. If you have completed it you have taken on all the bosses many times already. I don’t really see what the point is. Strange decisions.

  1

  pip_muzz

  29pip_muzzSun 25th Oct 2020

@Rustydog83 It’s not whining it’s a valid criticism. It annoys me to no end that things in other games that are seen as bad development are seen as part of the “challenge” of Sekiro. Clearing out enemies before bosses everytime is akin to unskippable cutscenes. It’s not necessary. I know it works because of the way you respawn when you die back at the checkpoint with a world reset… It just comes across as an articial challenge. Rather than focusing on the enemy that is kicking my ass, I have to plow through the grunts again and again and again… That’s just not fun. The dying and learning process from the game is very fun, the grind not so much. Just my opinion is all.

@ztpayne7 i do love sekiro, but i far more enjoy bloodborne because of the beast and Lovecraft tones. The story also felt deeper and more obscure, which i tend to prefer in my games

  0

  ztpayne7

  34ztpayne7Sun 25th Oct 2020

@Leafall Sekiro and Bloodborne are pretty equal for me. My post about how they shouldn’t play any others is because they were complaining about random mobs in between checkpoints and bosses – Sekiro is much better in that regard with having less of that

  KidBoruto

  35KidBorutoSun 25th Oct 2020

@Olmaz That is correct. There are no paid story expansions/DLC.

  1

  Olmaz

  36OlmazSun 25th Oct 2020

@KidBoruto But then what is the point of a GOTY edition?

Just a box rebranding to sell a few copies more?

Making sure the price of the game doesn’t go down too quickly because its release date is now October 2020 (frankly, this is Activision we’re talking about, they may well have thought of that!)?

  1

  KidBoruto

@pip_muzz I was on the fence on getting this someday but your comment has shown me this is not for me. god I hate poor checkpoint placement and unskippable cutscenen. really the bane of gaming for me.

  0

  pip_muzz

  43pip_muzzMon 26th Oct 2020

@Flurpsel There are no unskippable cutscenes in this game but the checkpointing is harsh. It’s not so much the placement but that the world essentially “resets” upon every death. As much as the niggles in the game annoy me I do think it’s worth a play still… I don’t see why it’s so highly rated but there’s fun to be had with it nevertheless.

  GHockey

  45GHockeyWed 28th Oct 2020

@pip_muzz From what I remember, a lot of the tougher bosses had checkpoints almost immediately before them. For those that didn’t, couldn’t you just stealth/grapple/run past most of the grunts? You didn’t have to kill them every time. But yes, a checkpoint immediately before every boss would be more convenient.

It’s kind of the same concept as the multi phase bosses. You always have to get through those first phases before dying on the final phase again and again and again I guess that’s why the multi phase bosses tend to have checkpoints right outside. Maybe that’s how they decided it.

@Northern_munkey man I spent a while on that, and I’m sure every person who reads this says the sane thing. You’ll get it. Movement and patience is the key. Genichiro is the first crucible, but man that ape is trouble for so many.
